Each year, in partnership with School District No. 50 , local schools, and BC Gaming, MMAC presents the Forest Stewardship Outdoor Education Program. This experiential program places students in the outdoor classroom of Haida Gwaii’s wilderness. The object is to provide a vivid educational experience to students of all learning styles, combined with an unplugged wilderness camp experience. Students benefit from our curriculum enhancement activities in the areas of:

  • Earth sciences
  • Fine arts
  • PhysEd
  • Cultural history

In the past, students have explored animal/forest interactions, practised survival skills such as fire/shelter making, learned about advances in forest management from visiting experts, and competed in a mini Eco-challenge Race!

At MMAC, whether honing kayaking strokes, hopping into a canoe for the first time, or acting out the part of a pine marten in our hugely popular Ecology Game, kids are having fun learning both by intention and through osmosis!
