The Mount Moresby adventure Camp Society is a non-profit organization whose mission is to:

  • Provide quality education programming in the form of day and overnight adventure camps, wilderness travel programs, skills workshops and instruction, and wilderness retreats
  • Provide programming support and trained personnel as an option to groups using the MMAC infrastructure
  • Provide the infrastructure that allows for the promotion of outdoor education and recreation in a safe, comfortable and affordable environment on Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte Islands

The Mount Moresby Adventure Camp Society (MMACS) was founded in 2000 by community members from Sandspit with the intention of increasing economic diversity on Haida Gwaii.

Since 2004, under the direction of Jonathan Ebbs, the MMACS began to offer a variety of programs with the simple goal of building and maintaining connections between youth and the environment through combining adventure pursuits (action) with natural and human history (context). MMACS has worked extensively with local island organizations to incorporate a variety of different perspectives into our program base as they relate to the land. As the MMACS has gotten to know the land, we have been able to serve these same organizations through sharing our information such as rare plant locations, Karst formations, gps trail data to name a few. This has created for our programs an opportunity to participate in real work that matters and that supports the well-being of this island.
